The EN1598 standard

Since December 20, 1997, Standard EN1598 (Health and safety in welding and allied processes: curtains, strips and screens for transparent processes of arc welding) determine the technical safety requirements for transparent welding curtains, strips and screens used in welding arc processes.

 

 

 

These screens are designed to protect persons in the immediate environment of arcs, rays and projections.

The standard contains 4 paragraphs each specifying a technical requirement of safety:

 

  • 4.1: Transmission
  • 4.2: Reflection
  • 4.3: The UV stability
  • 4.4: The resistance to combustion

 

 

The amendment of February 5, 2002 (EN 1598/A1)

 

On February 5, 2002, the standard has been amended for clarification on paragraph 4.4: requirements for resistance to combustion.

 

Paragraphs 4.4.5 and 4.4.6 have been completed and stipulate that the flame must self-extinguish 1s after its removal.

 

Following this amendment, all products on the market have been re-registered.
