Welding
Why should you protect yourself?
Metal welding requires a high concentration of energy. Most of it is used for welding itself, but part of that energy is dispersed in the form of rays that are harmful to humans. Welding also produces projections of incandescent material.
Welding screens are designed to protect people against the radiations and the projections of welding arcs.
Where to use welding screens?
Wherever the welding process is used: around welding workshops and production lines.
To help users, different colors have been developed:
- Dark green (also called T9) is the most used colour because it was the first to be adopted by the manufacturers of soft PVC. It was inspired by the color of solder mask filters.
- Red has been developed for the automotive industry that required a more transparent product to ensure greater visibility of workstations in the workshop.
- The bronze color is mostly used in Germany, where a more dark than the T9 green is desired.
As welding screens are products involved in the safety of persons and buildings, a standard has been imposed in Europe: the EN1598.
It imposes stringent protection criteria for soft PVC screens and strips used inwelding environments.
To meet the requirements of the European Standard EN1598, the compounding department of Extruflex created the SCREENFLEX® range.
